We did a number of things to try to get closer to the environment this past week.
We attended a library craft time where Alex made this beautiful Earth Day Tree Hat.
We read several stories, including one that I really enjoyed called the "Great Kapoke Tree", which
was about a man who was about to cut down trees in the Amazon Rainforest but then realized
how much he would upset the animals natural habitat and decided against it. Nice pictures, easy
to follow and most importantly, held Alex's attention. We also have been working diligently on
our mini gradens. Alex is a member of the pea pod at the local floral nursery and this months activity was to pot their own plant. Dad & I also decided to start up our food garden so we bought some basil, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries and a few other herbs. Alex has been assigned the duty of watering them daily, along with her plants. She's been doing a great job. We have also had more conversations around why we recycle, what teh environment would look like if we didn't and ways to make the world a more beautiful place. Lastly,
I recommend reading "Miss Rumphius" during Earth Week. It will inspire even the tiniest of hands to make a difference.
