March Nature Class

 
This month we started one of the 2 nature classes we've joined. The first class, which takes place at this beautiful old tudor mansion, was all about exploring your own backyard. Of course, my backyard looks NOTHING like the grounds we were exploring. Here are some pictures of our day.

 The session starts with a story & craft inside the mansion....we were stuck in traffic and missed half part due to one of Richmond's many marathons.

 

 

After the story/craft- we went outside- first specific areas were "marked"

 

Then a closer inspection took place (note the craft binoculars and a lovely little color/shape game for Jordan- she was to be constantly looking for things in nature matching the color/shape)

after the group exploration, we came inside to plant seeds.
 
Crept around the mansion....

 

Then backdoors we went- I stayed back and let the girls explore from a distance. They found this cool ivy covered door which they first pretended it led to "The Secret Garden" and then it became the locked door from Narnia's "Silver Chair".

  
and then off they all went...I even let the baby venture outside of arms reach....

Now, I should have made the comment that they could wander as long as they stayed together....becuase Alex shot off downhill

 

While Jordan & Kennedy tried to climb to new heights.......

 

In the end, I was able to get them all on the same path as we headed off to our next venture (the Saint Patricks festival....but that's another post)

 

#67-68/365 Mommytography

So waaay back on Sunday,  3/6 we had dinner with grand dad, who came into town & Aunt Norvel.

Here's Alex & Aunt Jenny completing a US puzzle (Alex is memorizing the states/capitals/locations). I love these puzzles and we have almost all of them. The puzzle pieces actually match the shape of the states/countries on them.

 

Then the girls played a duet (just kidding) on the organ, while Kennedy looked on....

 

and the girls just enjoyed some time jumping/loving on grand dad.

 

No pictures 3/7-3/9 (again, probably they are in my now dead camera)

on 3/10, we went to Alexs' student led conference. Basically the students were to show us their lessons and walk us through a "typical days workplan"

She showed us how to classify triangles....

 She also did some SRA work and grammar work but I didn't want to be "that" parent taking pictures of everything (although in my heart, I truly am)  :)

  I snapped this picture at the end of the  day....Alex has discovered "playbacks" from the local libraries....she's listening to one of her favorite books, "Savvy".  She doesn't know there's a sequel, which will be included in her Easter basket next month.

 

 

 

Happy first day of Spring, 2011

This morning started off with hailstorms and tonight we had a series of lightening storms.  So much for our first day of Spring. 

Here are some pictures from the day. Every morning I write a "love note" for Alexs lunch box.

 

After dinner we took a a late night family walk....

 

Jordan spotted this lovely flower creeping through the dead leaves.

 

and on the way back we found our first frog of the season :)

#59- 65/365 Mommytography Project

And more updates...I' m really hoping to et caught up by Sunday.

So, on Sunday 2/27, a quick pic. of the girls playing in the backyard and the remainder of deserts awaiting them back inside.

 

 ignore the date above, the camera clock is still off by a few hours and depending on when I take the picture, it could be one day or the next.
 

2/28, Monday- I caught Alex singing Michael Jackson songs with her Karioke machine.

 

Tuesdasy, March 1,  daddy cuddled w/Jordan reading "My Truck is Stuck".

 

and Alex completed some grammar work.

 

March 2, a little checkers game w/daddy.

 

March 3, that sweet daddy bought home some fancy cupcakes for the girls....

 

March 4, time to go grocery shopping as our cupboards were BARE.

It was another good week for the family.

 

#58/365 Mommytography Project

Incase you've noticed how much I'm online today and wondering "What kind of teacher is she, she's clearly online instead of teaching"....actually I'm home sick. Although even in sickness, I feel the need to be somewhat productive and have been lying here coughing & organizing my digital photos.  Anyway, here's 2/26, it was a busy day so I'm giving it it's own post. I'm realizing I'd be such a great blogger, if this darn job thing didn't get in way.

 

2/26- Morning started at the library book sale, I got this whole box for $6

 

Then the girls convinced me to stop by one of our favorite school playgrounds- it actually has a built in musical park.

 

Loved banging on these....

and these are various sounding drums....but the kids use them as gymnastics equipment.
 

Even Kennedy stretched herself to play a tune....
 

but she had more fun walking & crunching on the mulch....
 

Later that evening we went to see "The Life of Martin Luther King, Jr"  by the Children's Theatre.

It was a nice play, probably about 60- 90 mins, so easy enough for even Jordan to sit through (with about 2 trips to see what the bathroom looked like) and a pocketbook full of lollipops :)

#51-57/365 Mommytography Project

So picking up where I left off....

Feb. 19th- it was a warm but windy day and we went for a neighborhood walk/ Alex rode her bike.

 

 

 

and then out for Chinese where Jordan practiced using chopsticks.

 

2/20 Jordan practiced her Mighty Minds cards...

 

2/21 Alex started homework practice sheets as the school prepares to administer the Standord 9 tests. The worksheets themselves were very simple, now getting her to fill in a bubble neatly was another challenge.

 

Jordan preferred to spend her time doing art along side big sis.

 

2/22- playing multiplication games (4's-6's) on www.multiplication.com site (games)
 

and Jordan listening to her leapfrog reading pen/book.

 

2/23 daddy was travelling so we went out for girls night ice-cream.
 

2/24- We all went to the school talent show... dark picture becuase I didn't want to make the kids even more nervous with a series of flashing lights.

2/25- MY BIRTHDAY :)   I originally wanted to take a picture of every meal I had, as I ate out the entire day...but only managed to take 1 picture becuase with all the others, I had already eaten most of the food when I remembered.

#45- 50/365 Mommytography Project

 
Ok- it's been almost a month- so get ready for a plethora of pic. updates.

 So on 2/13, we had a pre-Valentines Day celebration with sweet treats.

 

 

2/14- No picture. Which means it's probably in my now dead camera for which I can't find the charger!

On 2/15- we went out for a relaxed  family Valentines dinner

 

On 2/16- I took this photo of my students who made a goodie bag for a fellow classmate going thru a tough time.

 

2/17-  I snapped these quick shots of the girls playing in the backyard.

 

 

2/18- I took the girls to the Children's Museum for an evening of late night fun & play.... picking apples,

 
water play,

 

milking cows,

puzzles,

 

 and the big kid stayed in the art room the entire time and later we joined her to do some crafts. (You can see Alex across the table)

 

I would ask how your week went, but this was soooo long ago I doubt anyone remembers. I barely did :)
